The latest version of our AI-powered Decision Intelligence platform is all about equipping business users with summarized information about their data (metadata) to make it easier and faster to arrive at informed decisions. In addition to the centralized metadata view, we have also introduced a range of features and enhancements to improve collaboration between users and provide transparency to teams.
Before jumping into 4.1 features, let’s do a quick 101 on metadata (basically, why we did what we did).

What is metadata and why is it important?
While businesses accumulate an ever-growing amount of data, a lot of it is typically underutilized because the purpose of each dataset is unclear to most users. As a result, companies end up using less than 1% of their unstructured data to make decisions. The size of unstructured data is proliferating, and companies are missing out on valuable insights if the data is not thoroughly defined.
Enter metadata. In simple terms, metadata is “data about data”—such as owner, data type, display name, column description, metric calculation, synonyms, etc. Metadata helps analysts establish well-defined datasets and enables business users to understand the purpose of each dataset.
How metadata benefits you
Metadata ensures your data is consistent, complete, reliable, accurate, and up-to-date.
- Synonyms, data descriptions, and display names help identify what you’re looking for, saving you a significant amount of time.
- Centralized management of metadata helps you interpret the context of different datasets and empowers every business user to work autonomously. The more organized and categorized a dataset is, the easier and faster it is to analyze the data.
- Metadata also helps identify similar data, create correlations, find patterns, and group them together for ease of access—especially when the entire database is spread over multiple warehouses and silos.
Now that we’ve addressed how metadata benefits businesses, let’s look at how Tellius 4.1 can assist you in contextualizing your datasets (along with many other critical features!).
Establish context
Setting up context for your datasets helps everyone quickly interpret the data and expedite analysis. Studies show that 80% of analysts’ time is spent discovering and preparing required data. Tellius 4.1 equips you with information so that you can focus your time on deriving valuable insights, rather than wasting time deciphering the data.
🗃️ Collecting and documenting metadata separately leads to siloed data management. With 4.1, Tellius lets you access and update metadata right from a centralized data preparation module. With this feature, users can define the following:
- Display name
- Column description
- Data type
- Column type
- Feature type
- Data aggregation
- Data format
- Special type
- Synonyms
- Rank
- Index
- Include/exclude a column for Insights/Predict
There are times when you need to update the same information for thousands of columns simultaneously. For that, Tellius’ bulk operation features help you effortlessly and quickly modify multiple rows with a single click.
💬 While generating insights or building a search query, you can now view the contextual metadata (column description, column type, and display name) by hovering over the columns.
Promote collaboration
As more team members understand key performance metrics and anomalies, productivity and cohesiveness improve across the team. The following updates are designed to bolster cross-team collaboration:
👥 Multiple users can subscribe to a feed or notification.
📬 In addition to the creator, subscribers can also receive regular updates on the objects they’re interested in.
🔎 Smart enough to identify if a feed already exists, Tellius asks the user to subscribe to it rather than create a duplicate feed.
Enhance Transparency
Providing holistic visibility of jobs scheduled and actions executed helps the team understand situations and arrive at better decisions. To promote visibility and improve accessibility, the following new features have been introduced:
⏲️ A new tab to monitor the status of all scheduled jobs accessible to a user.
🔔 Any user can subscribe to jobs and receive real-time notifications.
ℹ️ Additional metadata for each job provides detailed insights into the status and information of the actual object.
To summarize, Tellius 4.1 facilitates supercharging your analysis through improved context, collaboration, and transparency over your datasets. It enables context-driven analysis and significantly reduces the time analysts spend on preparing data.
